I had a strong maths background with solid AMC and AIME results, so I initially assumed the TMUA would be straightforward. Paper 2 proved me wrong — I could handle calculations but froze when confronted with rigorous proof questions. A friend recommended TMUA Elite, and I went straight for the VIP Guaranteed programme.

Dr. Chen's diagnosis identified my issue: not maths knowledge but mathematical expression and the rigour of logical chains. His words stayed with me: 'Being able to find the answer doesn't mean you can prove it.' Over two months of 1-on-1 lessons he drilled proof-writing discipline — from hypothesis statements through reasoning steps to conclusions, every step had to be bulletproof.

The process was painful — once he rejected an entire page of my proof and had me start over — but truly transformative. He also cultivated my 'mathematical aesthetic sense', teaching me to write the most concise, elegant proofs while maintaining rigour.

I scored 8.5 — the highest in my cohort and TMUA Elite's record that year. Now studying Engineering at Cambridge, I look back on that preparation as the period that turned me from 'a student who can solve problems' into 'a person who can think mathematically'.
