In Year 11 my maths grades were mediocre — middle of the class. But I had always dreamed of studying abroad, and my parents supported me. Learning that Durham accepts TMUA scores, I began preparing in the winter holiday of Year 12.

Starting with the self-study programme, David's recorded lessons were superb — clear, well-paced, and never boring, with animated visuals that made abstract concepts tangible. I watched two sessions every evening study period. After winter break I joined the foundation class, where my self-study base made everything much easier. Ms. Wang frequently called on me in class — nerve-wracking at the time but genuinely helpful for reinforcing every concept.

Then the summer boot camp transformed me over three weeks — not just mathematically but in my overall logical thinking and organisation. Finally, a month before the exam, the mock exam course plugged remaining gaps. This year-long journey from 4.5 to 7.8 felt like a qualitative leap in mathematical thinking.

Special thanks to David for his patient answers in the study group — questions sent at 11 PM always had detailed replies by morning. He truly is a teacher who keeps students at heart.
