Having grown up in the UK with A* in both GCSE and A-Level Maths, I assumed the TMUA needed no extra preparation. A past paper proved me wrong — the knowledge was familiar but the questioning angle was completely different, testing deep understanding rather than computational skill. Paper 2's logic questions were never systematically covered in school.

Through a friend I found TMUA Elite and took online 1-on-1 lessons. Dr. Zhang is the best logic teacher I've ever had — she teaches not just methods but how to 'think like a mathematician'. Each session she let me attempt problems first, then analysed exactly where my reasoning went right or wrong. This personalised correction beat any amount of mass practice.

She also wove in stories from mathematical history — the origins of Godel's incompleteness theorems, Russell's paradox and its impact on mathematical foundations — seemingly unrelated to exams but profoundly deepening my understanding of logic. After about 20 lessons I went from 4.6 to 7.3, with Paper 2 soaring from 3.8 to 7.8.

I secured my Imperial Maths offer. UK-based students: do not underestimate the TMUA — what school teaches and what the exam tests are two different things!
